Jordan's VIAS Experience

My name is Jordan Allan and I have been working for Values Into Action Scotland for 19 months now.

I first started as an Administrative Assistant in October 2013. In March 2015 I took up the role as Quality Checker initially for only one day a week and Administration work 2 days a week but now I am a Quality Checker for 3 days a week. I am enjoying working here at VIAS I have gained a lot of new skills and confidence. I have also completed an SVQ in Business Administration.

Since taking up the role as Quality Checker I have been to conferences, attended a focus group and have also being carrying out Quality Checks with people with disabilities who were interested in one to one meetings at their own homes. On my first home visit I was feeling very nervous but with the support of my line manager it made it easier. As the interview went on and when it came to my second interview I was feeling more confident and it made the interview easier for me and had the support of my line manager if needed. I was also involved in a Quality Checking Video which is on this site.

I was interested in taking up the role of Quality Checker because I wanted to help to improve the lives of people with disabilities and give them the same opportunities that I have had. It has been interesting hearing people’s good news stories and not so good news stories. I was shocked at the hours of support that people with disabilities have had cut and you can see how much people depend on support.

I have meetings and presentations coming up shortly which I am looking forward to being involved in and I am looking forward to gaining more experience, gaining more skills, meeting people and hearing their experiences.
